Statistics

How many people are coming to your site? Where are they coming from? What keywords are they looking for? and, Which are your most popular pages? In Internet Marketing, it is important to know where your visitors are coming from. You need to know how many people visit your site, when they are visiting, and what they are looking for.

This information can help you to decide where, and when to advertise, and which methods are most effective. You must also know which keywords are pulling in traffic from the search engines so you can determine which pages to optimize for those keywords.

This lesson will teach you how to use the statistics tools that come with the PowerSite system. There are actually three different statistic pages that you will use. They are, Stats, Top List, and HTTP Referrers.

'Stats' can be accessed by clicking the link on the main menu. You will find this to be a useful tool when planning advertising on your site. You can easily see which days and times get the most traffic, and plan your advertising accordingly. If you are running an advertising campaign, you will be able to gauge the response to your ads by viewing the statistics.

Stats are available to all of your visitors from the main menu. This can be a useful tool for selling advertising on your site. Your potential clients will be able to gauge the amount of traffic they will get for their ads. However, if you do not want your visitors to see these stats, you can disable the Stats link on the main menu by removing the link. (simply go to the menu block and edit it). Your Stats will still be available by typing http://www.yoursitename.com/Stats.html into the browser.

By clicking on the "Top List" menu item, you will be able to view the most popular features on your site. This page shows exactly how many hits your most popular articles, categories and downloads receive. You will also be able to view the most active members in terms of article submissions to your site.

You can also learn where your visitors are actually coming from. To do this, log in as admin, and click on 'HTTP Referrers' on the Administration Control Panel. You can view detailed referrer statistics from here, including which sites send you the most visitors, and which keywords are being searched for by visitors. By knowing which keywords are searched for the most, you will be able to optimize your pages for those words and improve your search engine performance.

You can also use the free biz-whiz counter from http://biz-whiz.com/article293.html for further statistics information. If you need the raw logfiles for analysis, these can be made available to you on request.

In this lesson, you learned about the three main statistical tools that are available with your PowerSite. You also learned how to view the different types of information that is made available and to use that information to your advantage for advertising and for search engine optimization purposes.

By Knowing how to use the statistics from your site, you can do a better job of planning and selling advertising. And you will be able to optimize your site content by knowing what keywords visitors are looking for. This will result in improved traffic for your site, and improved sales.
